About ‘Expat Mind Psychology’
Moving away from the familiar comfort of home to start a new life in a different country, region, or town is often seen as an exciting adventure. Yet, hidden challenges often emerge as we begin to develop roots in our new place, sometimes transforming our aspirations into an uphill journey.
Drawing from my own expatriate experience (which you can explore on the "About José" page), I created Expat Mind to support you when the stress of unexpected challenges—old or new—leads to self-doubt or feelings of being stuck.
My Approach
In my practice, I focus on techniques that emphasize action and moving forward rather than just conversation. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we work toward proactive, present-focused goals. When difficulties connect to past experiences or relationship patterns, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can help clear obstacles to becoming the person you wish to be.
My goal is to enable you to recognize when unhelpful thoughts and feelings arise and to implement specific techniques to address them early on. In essence, I aim to empower you to become your own therapist.
Professional development is central to my approach. I stay current with evidence-based practices, combining formal training with ongoing research, all while integrating your understanding of your challenges and unique strengths.
If you’re not an expatriate or don’t feel your challenges are linked to relocation, the work I do may still be relevant. Feel free to reach out to learn how my approach can be helpful for you.
